The evolution of indi is a story we’d love to tell as it’s one that fills us with pride and joy.
Countless hours of blood, sweat and tears has gone into the creation of indi and for many of us, this platform has now become our baby and we can’t wait to see it grow and develop.
Little did we know, indi had been an idea growing in the back of someone’s mind for many years. Let us take you back to 2017 and introduce Harriet. Her family own and manage a retail mews called Millstream Square in Sleaford; a quaint market town within Lincolnshire and she had an ambition to host markets in the square and thus began the start of this 6 year journey.
Between 2017 & 2019 Harriet hosted some small scale events and put time into research; learning about artisan producers as well as the global craft and food market. 2020 was set to be a big year, with markets on a much greater scale organised to take place, however, as the Country ground to a halt due to Covid-19, so did her plans and unfortunately only the first event went ahead.
The impact of the pandemic had a crippling effect to many, but for others it enabled them to reflect, reassess and look for some sort of silver lining to their dark cloud. People were pursuing their creative passions and suddenly an explosion of small businesses emerged. Baking, making, drawing, sewing, you name it, people were doing it.
In the Spring of 2021 a fresh young face joined the team to help bring the markets back with a bang. Together, Harriet & Sophie organised 3 epicsummer markets that saw well over 20 traders (plus a waiting list) at each event and an average footfall of over 2000 people - something really awesome for a small market town like Sleaford.
Comment after comment poured in from each market, the atmosphere on the day and how present and engaged the Millstream Team were, you could see they really cared about the businesses success at their event.
It soon became apparent something was missing for this group of people. There were rumbles of discontent about current online platforms, so they had no place to call home, no place they felt valued, no place they could turn to for help or advice and despite an appetite from consumers to support local businesses there wasn't a platform that enabled the same kind of interaction a trader and consumer got at a physical market. The need for a platform which solved these problems and supported traders 24/7 was needed.
As a team who knows what it's like to own and work in a small business, we are dedicated to offering support to businesses who need help along the way. Owning a small business means you have to wear a lot of hats and sometimes a bit of help goes a very long way.
Not only are we here to support these producers but we are here for the customer. The person who wants to support independent sellers and businesses. The person who is conscious of how and where they spend their money. The person that wants a personalised touch and to know they have made a difference to someone else’s life. A person who is interested in unique locally produced products.
Our mission is simple. We are here to support the big dreams of small businesses by helping to change the way we shop. We would love you to join us on our journey!
We would love to connect with you so please follow us on Facebook & Instagram.
